Setting Up Your CLie For Wireless Hotsync

These instructions assume that you are already using your Clie to surf the web and/or check pop3 email via your existing wireless router or AP.

These instructions will allow you to perform a hotsync either in the Local  (hotsync cable) or Modem (Wireless) mode using your Hotsync icon in your Clie.

I have a Clie TH55 that works like a charm with very acceptable battery life and finally my wireless hotsync is working.  These settings should also work with other 802.11 enabled Clie.

On You Desktop PC

1.
Right click on the Hot Sync Icon (in your task bar) and select Network.  You should now have a check mark on  "Local USB" and "Network".  Note: You'll be able to perform either a cable or wireless sync from now on.

If you know the IP address of your PC skip to #3

2. Right click the Hot Sync Icon again and select "Setup"  Click on the "Network" Tab,
Click on TCP/IP Settings,  Make a note of your IP Address

Hot Sync on your Clie

3. Find your Hot Sync on your Clie in your Clie and click on it to open.

4. Go to to the Hot Sync Options by clicking on the word HotSync at the top of the  Clie window and go to "Options" then "Modem Sync Prefs".  Click on "Network" then Ok.

5. Go to Hot Synch Options again and select the LANsync Prefs and  click on LANsync then Ok.

6. Go To Hot Sync Options again and select  Primary PCSetup. Put two exclamation points (no spaces) in the Primary PC Name field (Like so !!).

7. Enter your IP Address in the Primary PC Address field.  Click OK to close the window.

You are done with your setup.

Performing a Local or Wireless Hotsync

Startup your Clie, open your hotsync application and select Modem for a wireless hotsync. You should see your "wireless" network listed just below the hotsync button.  If not click on item listed below the button and select your wireless network then Done.  Finally click on the hotsync button to start the process.

You may continue to use the Local choice for a cable hotsync.

Did it work?  Let me know by sending me an email via my online form:  Contact Billyg

Notes:

1. When doing a cable hotsync I need to click and approve changes made during the hotsync, while a wireless hotsync goes through without any prompts.

2. If you're Clie locks up during the wireless hotsync, disable the power saver option. Here's how

On your Clie open your Prefs then Network, with your wireless LAN shown selected as the Service click on Details, Select your wireless profile and click on Edit. You are now at your Wireless LAN Setup window. Click on Advanced Setup and uncheck the Power Save Mode to disable it.  Now click Ok, Ok, Ok.  Now try a wireless Hotsync.
